Clothing....a medium of expression that is somehow concurrently the most inwardly personal and outwardly opaque.
My hope in this written form is to provide insight and context to this often abstract form that is clothing design. I believe that transferring art to another medium inevitably creates opportunity or loss of meanig of experience. “If the movie could be explained in an essay, it would be an essay,” remarked one NYU film professor I think about often - not only do outside explanations invariably come up short and distorted, explanation from the creator often robs the art's ability to let viewers ideas imbed themselves into it.
I take on simply and only the role of narrator, not giving the meaning behind the art, but to let you in on the world that helped create it.
Im aware that clothing marketing has the power to make people feel like they are lesser, unworthy. But done with intention and integrity it has the power to make people seen, heard, part of a group, and feel less alone. It’s an incredible lens in which to view a person and how they fit into a larger world around them.
